A VOICE FOR MIGRANTS

In this video production project, we follow the steps of the SIMN (Scalabrini International Migration Network) team in Bogotá, Cúcuta, Porto Alegre, and New York.

The SIMN is an organization formed by a network of networks working for the rights of migrants, refugees, and fishermen around the world. They have a global reach, and their main headquarters is located in New York City, where they have an important advocacy role on migration issues at the United Nations.

In this project, we had the opportunity to accompany them in different moments and scenarios of their work.

We had simultaneous work in Porto Alegre and New York, conducting interviews with their staff in Brazil with a production team consisting of a Portuguese-Spanish interpreter, project manager, director of photography, production assistance, just like in the United States.

In Colombia, we accompanied the SIMN’s work in Cúcuta, a border city with Venezuela through which thousands of families pass. In the city of Bogotá, we visited the Migrant Assistance Center in the Santafé neighborhood.

We also joined them again in New York as hosts of the Civil Society Preparatory Meeting 2022, where organizations from around the world came together to work on joint communication strategies for the United Nations.

This project has been very special for us because it has allowed us to strengthen a close relationship with the SIMN team. We have come to understand their cause and passion for helping those in need.

It has also given us the opportunity to carry out projects in multicultural coordination with allied staff and internal teams, engaging in dialogue in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, meeting people from different parts of the world, and sharing our Colombian culture.

The work of the SIMN is extremely valuable, and it needs more visibility and support, especially during these difficult times where the violation of rights, mistreatment, and deaths of migrants crossing the sea, desert, or jungle are daily news.

You can learn more about the work of SIMN by visiting their official website at https://simn-global.org/. On their website, you will find information about their projects, initiatives, and actions in support of migrants, refugees, and fishermen around the world.
